Good point JT!
I too have returned to review some older posts I made in haste and while I was still "under the influence". I am very thankful to all of the researchers, writers and opponents whose information was made available to us so that WE could lear to think for OURSELVES and rescue ourselves without having to lean on anyone but courage.
I thank Ray Franz, Simon, AlanF, Maximus, AF, Hillary_Step, Amazing, LDH, JDubLA, Kent, JanH, and so many others that I can't remember them all. They are quiet unsung heroes who have no idea how much their work is still helping people every day!

Simon:
The certification requirement in the IT industry can become a second job in itself.
I am now in the process of completing the Novell 6 Upgrade. In order to keep my MasterCNE, I have had to complete IT Project Plus, Linux Plus and now I will have to face the upgrade exam.
I never upgraded my old MCSE NT4 to WIN2k, but I now realize since competition for contracts and assignments is getting very tough, I will have to upgrade another 4 certifications just to appear current.
After a dozen certifications, and two degrees, I am still struggling to land assignments. Outsourcing to India and Pakistan is also becoming a factor which affects employment prospects.
I just started a brand new user group here in Providence called the "OSTUG" Open Source Technology User Group. We were just invited by the Boston Linux Unix Group to join and affiliate ourselves with their meetings at M.I.T. two nights ago.
We meet monthly and are a vendor neutral group open to developers, administrators, technicians and integrators. I started this group because the former group I belonged to called "SNENUG" was hijacked by Microsoft. SNENUG was supposed to be a group for network administrators and instead, under new leadership, it became a venue for presenters and resellers from Microsoft to pitch every product under the sun.
The others members put up with it because MS gave away plenty of free copies of software and MS Press books and other items. After the WIN2003 launch, I refused to accept the WIN2003 Advanced Server CD & book and decided to send a message to all the members asking if anyone was interested in a truly neutral group focusing on technology, and NOT on vendors.
Sure enough, others shared my concerns and now after two meetings we have 20 members, are launching our own web-site (running MINIX 2.0 w/Apache & PHP) next week.
I have been asked to teach a class at Mount Ida College on LINUX/UNIX fundamentals and things are improving.
You will notice from your server logs that I visit this forum from the same machien, however using either RedHat 9, SuSE 8, Mandrake 9, BSD or sometimes WIN2K. I believe in variety. -

I apologize. I know how difficult it is to read, study, practice, work, support a household and pass any exams. It is very hard work. I applaude you and I am sorry about the comment concerning other platforms. This is your accomplishment and your day to celebrate!
You go Boyeeeee! -

Christianity promotes a helpless victim mentality...
by logansrun ini'm going to be a man of few words here.
christianity, in it's truest, fundamentalist form, promotes an unhealthy and non-productive victim mentality.
the christian feels helpless on his own -- condemned by sin and absolutely unworthy.

Hey BorgFree:
I apologize for jumping into this thread again, but your comments provoked a reply.
I understand the depth involved in contemplating whether or not universal/physical/spatial laws might have been altered due to the events in the supposed garden of eden.
But, ask yourself for a moment, does it really seem logial for an all powerful being to "lock" all universal laws together in a binding fashion so that any change alters the operation of everything?
Why hinge the forces of gravity upon the outcome of whether or not humanoids obey simple nutritional instructions? It seems almost ridiculous.
If my sound card is not operational, my laptop continues functioning. I troubleshoot the problem and make repairs. If my laptop would crash, then there is obviously a FLAW in design.
So, your assertion lends to the possibility that the supreme being is like a product from Microsoft.
I cannot accept that because it is not logical. It does not compute. -

It is another well placed "generality" with a slew of possibilities for fulfillment. The debate over the "signs" is endless. It will keep you mentally off-balance and under religious influence while searching for answers in an empty black hole.
It is sad to be deceived, but tragic to ignore the deception and linger in fantasy. -

Gee Simon, I didn't know you "had it in you" - yet!
Just kidding Chap, consider it flattery. At the courts two gentlemen of the alternative persuasion flirted with me more than any women ever did in my life. -

The notion that men somehow have a "special" or "unique" position of understanding, responsibility and/or authority is common in all ancient religions. It has been a useful tool in subjugating other humans.
Take a look at the Imams, Buddhist Monks, Catholic Priests, etc.. Some protestant/evangelical religions have seen the advantage in improving the position of women, but I question the motive.
I recognize the apparent physiological differences between the genders but do not ascribe to anything beyond. -
